Why Filter Your Oregon Water?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says more than 90 percent of Americans get their tap water from community systems that must adhere to safe drinking water standards.

If you are among the 90 percent whose tap water flows from a municipal or community supply, you may wonder why you should be concerned about water quality. After all, the supplier must maintain safe drinking water standards.

According to the CDC, your tap water generally is safe to drink but can become contaminated.

For example, a flood can cause sewage overflow, triggering a health department advisory to boil water. A malfunctioning wastewater treatment plant may taint the community water supply with bacteria. The CDC says pesticides, fertilizers, manufacturing processes, and inadequate water treatment may contribute to contamination.

Your own plumbing system may pollute your water supply. The water supply line to your home may be damaged and allowing dirt and bacteria to enter your system. Rust, sediment, and lead from deteriorating pipes and faucets can pollute the water you drink and use for cooking, laundry, and bathing.

Lead-tainted water can cause issues with the nervous and renal systems, and bacteria can lead to gastrointestinal problems.

Our expert plumbers at Sun Glow can help you prevent contamination by keeping your plumbing system in top shape. Contact us to inspect your water lines. We will determine if any pipes have deteriorated or use outdated material, such as galvanized steel and toxic lead. We are experts in whole-house repiping and plumbing repair.

Whole-House Water Filter Installation

We can install a whole-house filtering system close to the entry point of the main water line in your home, enabling it to screen out contaminants before they reach your faucets, showerheads, and appliances.

A home water testing kit is a useful tool for identifying contaminants in your water and determining which you want to remove.

At Sun Glow, we offer flexible financing options to maintain your water filtering system and other plumbing equipment.

Choosing a Water Filter System

Our trained pros at Sun Glow can help you decide which filter is best for your home. A carbon filter, for example, can screen out some chemicals, such as chlorine, volatile organic chemicals, and some heavy metals. Block carbon filters also can eliminate some microorganisms like Giardia, which can cause intestinal infections.

Sediment filters rid your water supply of dirt, rust particles, and sand. They often pair with carbon filters or ultraviolet (UV) filters that kill bacteria, algae, and viruses.

A reverse osmosis system uses high water pressure to push water through a semipermeable membrane that filters some chemicals, minerals, and bacteria. This system generally is installed in the kitchen, where you need pristine water for consumption and cooking.

We also install water softeners that remove iron, manganese, calcium, and magnesium from your water. Water softeners can prevent heavy metals, nitrates, and some radioactive materials from entering your water supply.
