Ceiling Fans in Portland, OR

Adding a ceiling fan to your Portland, OR, area home is a great way to improve ventilation. Ceiling fans allow for better airflow and are effective due to their central position.

Located in Oregon, Sun Glow is proud to provide quality custom electrical solutions. Need electrical construction, installation, or rewiring? Schedule your visit today.

Efficiency Equals Savings

On a warm summer's day, you can turn your ceiling fan on to keep cool and comfortable inside your home. It helps support your air conditioning system by circulating air.

When your air conditioner is supported by a fan, you can increase the temperature on your thermostat by 4 or 5 degrees without any reduction in comfort, helping you reduce your cooling costs!

In the market for a new ceiling fan? Sun Glow recommends purchasing one with the ENERGY STAR^® label—they are up to 40 percent more efficient than traditional models, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

How to Use Ceiling Fans During Summer and Winter

On a warm day, you can rotate the fan counterclockwise to circulate cool air throughout your Oregon home. On a cool winter's day, reverse it clockwise and run it at a low speed. This helps recirculate the heat that rises to the ceiling, keeping everyone inside warm and toasty.

Ceiling Fan Installation and Replacement

Ceiling fans are not a one-size-fits-all proposition. Your Sun Glow professional will need to take measurements to find one that fits the room where you want it installed. The span of the blades determines how much airflow it produces—the longer the span, the better the airflow. Contact your Sun Glow electrician for a full sizing guide.

For optimal airflow, the blades should be about eight feet from your floor. Here are two common mounting solutions:

Flush Mounts
Down Rod Mounts

Ceiling Fan Switches

For your comfort and convenience, there are multiple options to control your ceiling fan. Here are the most common switches:

Pull Chain - Simple to install and simple to control, the pull chain is a classic option. Pull the chain located on the fan to turn it on and off and to control the blade speed.
Wall Switch - Wall switches allow you to control the fan like a light switch. They may contain several buttons including "on," "off," and "reverse," as well as a button to adjust the light (if your fan has one).
Remote Control - Power on and adjust from anywhere in the room at your leisure with remote control for your ceiling fan.
Smart Fans - Smart fans pair with your home automation system, allowing you to control your fan from anywhere in the world via your smartphone. Additionally, you can set energy-saving cycles, significantly reducing your energy expenses.

Ceiling Fan Lights

Need some extra illumination? Your ceiling fan can come with a light fixture to brighten your space.

If the room you're installing a fan in needs some extra overhead light, or you're replacing a socket where an overhead light is already located, this is the perfect solution. Many switches also give you the option to adjust brightness. You can set the mood and ambiance as you keep your home comfortable.

We recommend fitting your ceiling fan light with an LED bulb. LED lighting uses up to 90 percent less electricity and lasts up to 25 percent longer than incandescent bulbs.
